Position Description:

EnerNOC has an immediate opening for an Assistant Controller, reporting to the Controller. In this position you will have direct contact with CFO, equity opportunities, professional development within a rapid growth environment. This person will oversee revenue operations including monitoring emerging revenue recognition rules and trends, updating the Company's revenue recognition policy and training finance and field personnel on revenue recognition; and liaise with legal and field personnel to structure transactions for proper revenue recognition. This position requires a broad knowledge of the distributed energy resources business with a strong working knowledge of GAAP.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Responsible for day-to-day accounting operations, including monthly and year-end close and management reporting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, etc.
  • Ensure revenue is appropriately recognized and documented for complex multiple element agreements.
  • Ensure compliance with Sarbanes Oxley controls and process requirements.
  • Perform management, analysis, and consolidation as well as development and documentation of accounting procedures and controls of Financial Statements in accordance with GAAP, including new pronouncements and laws.
  • Interface with Client Finance team to confirm Revenue by Client; serve as point-person for G/L department liaison with other departments to resolve issues and assist other teams.
  • Select and maintain system to appropriately track and account for Company's stock option plan. Including appropriate option expense recognition and calculation.
  • Manage and ensure timely filing of statutory tax filings, annual reports, etc. via 3rd party providers.
  • Assist team in developing efficiencies across departments to expedite financial reporting timeline.
  • Serve as project manager for various Finance/Accounting initiatives. Point person for summary report of operating profit vs. forecast provided to senior management.
  • Assist in the preparation of the monthly and quarterly management, discussion and analysis.
  • Lead Company's preparation and execution of annual audit.
  • Lead Reconciliation of balance sheet, review and approve all journal entries going into General Ledger.
  • Identify and execute improvements to existing processes and procedures.
  • Manage the ongoing needs of the company, and assist the CFO, Controller, and Employees on ad-hoc projects.

Required Qualifications/Skills/Education:

  • A BS and CPA are required with 4-6 years experience in Big 4 and/or industry experience. Preferably in an environment, such as Energy, Utilities, or software, with revenue recognition experience related to multiple element agreements.
  • Critical thinking skills and a team oriented attitude is a must. We are looking for an extremely polished professional with excellent communication skills that is interested in an ascending career path.
  • Experience creating documentation related to revenue recognition as well as policies and controls.
  • Very strong Excel skills. Experience with QuickBooks, PeopleSoft and related software platforms are required.
  • Ability to grow and develop with the Company.

 

Desired Skills/Qualifications:

  • An ideal candidate for this role will be someone with 2-3 years of public experience out of a recognized firm. This company operates in a niche market and is looking to bring someone on board that has IPO experience and/or time with entrepreneurial ventures. 5+ years of experience sought.
  • Experience preparing SEC filings desired but not required.
  • Experience in implementing software systems.
